BARCELONA

As the capital of Catalonia, with its distinct Catalan language and culture, Barcelona dates back to the 9th century when the first independent Count of Barcelona was established. Led recently by the renaissance that began with the 1992 Olympics. Originally developed as a series of largely self-contained neighborhoods - each with its distinct identity and function - Barcelona is a surprisingly easy city to navigate. From its medieval Gothic quarter and historic old town of narrow streets and alleys to its world famous art-nouveau buildings and futuristic Olympic Village on the harbor, Barcelona is a city of contrasts and unrivaled artistic beauty and diversity.
